I’ve been going through big companies to handle my AC/furnace repair and maintenance in Houston since moving here a couple years back. All three of the bigger companies kept trying to massively upsell me with thousands of dollars in unnecessary “fixes.” Totally unethical. Then I got to know people who could tell me to whom I really should be going to get honest estimates and good work on my system. All of my neighbors mentioned Bodensteiner. This is a family owned, long time Heights company that I have been doing business with for over 30 years. I’ve had multiple new units installed as well as existing units repaired in multiple rental and remodel properties over the years. They are responsive and reliable. They have never tried to up-sell me or use scare tactics to try and sell a new installation. In fact, they have helped me stretch out replacements when money has been tight - which has been a great help in the past. I’ve referred them to multiple people and have gotten similar feedback. I can’t say more except if they hadn’t been doing good I wouldn’t have been using them for so many years.

Hands down the BEST HVAC company in Houston, by far. Theyre family owned, extremely knowledgeable, honest, unbelievably professional, and pricing is more than fair. But best of all, theyre the only company Ive found that doesnt make you feel like theyre constantly trying to take advantage of you or recommend a bunch of unnecessary repairs or upgrades. I cross-shopped 3-4 other HVAC companies and it wasnt even close. Theyre like a hidden gem of the city, and Im incredibly thankful I found them. It was very easy to schedule an appointment for service. Bodensteiner AC is a family owned business & has been in existence for over 60 years. Blair checked in with me to let me know he was on the way. He arrived on time. I went into the attic with him & he took the time to answer my questions regarding our AC system. He fixed our issue promptly. Due to their excellent service we’ve decided to have Bodensteiner be our AC service provider to maintain our system.

Another great experience with Bodensteiner Service. we had our spring service checkup a little late, but both units, house and garage apartment checked out pretty well. Capacitor in then house unit was nearing the end so we preemptively replaced it. I was amazed at the cost, so much below some previous experiences. We have been using them for several years and would never consider anyone else.

Henry Bodensteiner , founder of the company, installed my hvac system in my newly purchased bungalow 35 years ago. Henry, a real character, worked alone and sadly passed away several years ago but his sons and grandson have continued with and built up the company. Whenever I have an issue at any of my properties, Blair or Hank are out to fix my hvac within 24 hours even though they may be swamped in the summer. They are reasonably priced, polite, prompt, honest, and will tell me if there is a solution that would save me money. I miss seeing Henry but am so pleased that his company has continued and thrived. I won’t use any other company.

Prompt, knowledgeable, thorough, trouble shooting, quick repairs after full analysis so no surprises next month….Bodensteiner’s tech Hank was top of the line. He listened to my concerns, he carefully inspected every aspect of the area of my leak, and made a few adjustments that should keep this same problem from happening again. The reason I called them? I had not as good responses from others in the phone book who came in fixed one quick thing and left. So this leads to other problems-The fee was well worth the service, the promptness and attention to detail. You will not be disappointed!

Over the last six or seven years, since I switched from using a large heating/HVAC firm, I have been consistently pleased with every service call by Bodensteiner. This began with a great relief, when I’d been told by the big firm that my house would need an entirely new HVAC system. I mentioned this to a work colleague who owns several rent houses. He urged me to get a second opinion from Bodensteiner. The next day Hank Bodensteiner arrived. Less than twenty minutes later my a/c was blowing volumes of cold air. Hank shrugged off my thanks, saying he “…only had to wiggle a connector on a circuit board.” For the small cost of a service call I was saved the price of a new HVAC system.

Bodensteiner is all about keeping their promises. Blair came out when promised, delivered a quote when promised, installed the new system when promised, registered the system (for warranty) with the manufacturer as promised, and the system works as promised. Blair also didnt try to scare me into buying a system. He said that, although the system was old (original 17 yr old builder grade system), there was no way he or anyone else could predict when it would die. I chose to replace the system because it WAS old and I didnt want to risk another summer of Houston heat with an old system. Theres a reason why so many people in The Houston Heights speak so highly of Bodensteiner. Their performance on all fronts deserves the praise.UPDATE: A couple of months after I had this new system installed, the one component I chose not to replace failed. Hank came out within 24 hours and replaced the part. They continue to impress me!

We use to have problems with our HVAC units almost twice a year, every year, until we started calling Bodensteiner. We have not needed any HVAC service since before the COVID epidemic (2020). Just got our coils cleaned to be sure all is doing fine. Both furnaces did not need to be cleaned. They found a condenser that was not working up to par so we had it replaced before it stopped working during the hot summer. Thanks Bodensteiner, have a cool summer.

However, last year, we had them come out for routine maintenance and within 6 days of a clean bill of health for the unit, the A/C died. A burned wire. Okay, maybe its a fluke. This year, routine maintenance, everything checks out again. Five days later, A/C died again. Two burned wires and capacitor is dead. I dont think its malicious, but very frustrating. Whether or not it was in their control to prevent the problem, Im left feeling stuck and like I paid for a service that didnt really help in the end. For the record, I know theyre a small local business and I feel bad leaving this review, but its just my experience so far. Up until 2023, would have given them five stars. Also, the techs are all very friendly, for what its worth.
